Early Years

Early Years Foundation Stage (Reception)

A captivating, purpose built classroom for 15 children, which extends outdoors into a secure, partially covered area.

Strong home/school links provided through home visits at the beginning of the year, offering smooth transition when starting school. As well as regular open parent sessions throughout the year where parents are invited into school to look at their child’s developing portfolio.

When starting in Reception, we begin with home visits in the first week of term (children do not come into school that week). Miss. Lockey and Mrs. Hulse visit the children in their home environment. The children initially attend part-time for the first three weeks (8.55am - 11.45am), for the third week they stop for lunch (8.55am - 1.15pm) and for the rest of the term they stop full time (8.55am - 3.15pm).
  • We’re a model school for Ruth Miskin’s Read Write Inc, a phonic, reading and writing scheme which year on year encourages children to become confident, competent readers and writers. For more information on Read Write Inc click on www.readwriteinc.com. If your child is already confidently beginning to form recognisable letters, please ask for a handout in school explaining the sequence of how each letter is formed.
  • A creative, exciting curriculum allowing children to learn through play through varying topics, themed weeks such as the polish wedding week, projects such as designing their own treasure box, visits to places such as the local post office and from visitors such as the Moulton fire brigade.
  • The curriculum is split into 6 key areas:
        1)     Personal, social and emotional development
        2)     Communication, language and literacy
        3)     Problem solving, reasoning and numeracy
        4)     Knowledge and Understanding of the world (exploration
and investigation, designing and making, ICT, time,
                place and communities)
        5)     Physical Development
        6)     Creative development (art, music, movement, dance,
                role-play and design and technology)
